OCPSL Junior Varsity Basketball Rules
2008 – 2009 Season
Eligibility:
The OCPSL Junior Basketball division is open to all students up to and including 6th grade. Any student that reaches his/her 14th birthday In the school calendar year is ineligible for the JV division and must be moved up to varsity regardless of class grade.
All students’ names must be on the roster and submitted to the league prior to the first game. Failure to submit roster before first game will result in a forfeit.
All students must have a physical prior to participating in any game.
JV players may play varsity and JV only if the varsity team has less than 10 players.
Playing Rules:
· All players that are dressed for a game must play in the game in any quarter
· Each Quarter will be 7 minutes
· Overtime will be 3 minutes
· 5 Timeouts per game. One additional timeout for each overtime session
· Offensive team has 10 seconds to advance the ball beyond half court (all 4 quarters)
· Foul line is 15” shorter for the entire game
· 28.5 regulation balls will be used
· Visiting team will be the official score book

All Officials must be
· No Official can ref any relatives game from that division
· Any coach ejected from a game is not eligible to coach in the next game.
· Exception if coach is coaching two teams he can not coach the other team if that team plays the same day. The coach must miss the next game he or she received the ejection
· Any coach that gets 4 technical fouls will be suspended from the league. Exception bench technical will be taken under consideration
· Defense must play a zone defense (any zone no man to man) the first half
· Defense must play back from the foul line extended until the play is across ˝ court or 5 seconds if the ball is held at half court.
· All shots can be contested regardless of where they are taken at any time
. Press Rules:
JV Boys – no pressing in the first half
JV Girls – no pressing in the first half
15 point differential: any team that is ahead by 15 or more points cannot press. The team that is down by 15 can still press
On a foul shot the lower lane will be filled both boys and girls (this is different than federation rules)
Playoffs / Post
Season:
· Each team play the other teams in their division 2x and the teams from the opposite division once.
· Winner of each division (East/West) based on overall record play in the banner game. If two teams, from the same division, are tied with the same overall record for the banner game, a playoff game will be scheduled at a neutral site.
· Every team makes the playoffs. If time permits (lower teams will be eliminated)
· Playoff seeding is based on total loses determining the upper seed Ties for playoff seeding will be broken based on head-to-head record, and then division records.
Misc:
· Any protest must be presented to the league director within 24 hours and in writing within 48 hours.
· All cancellations must be rescheduled ASAP.
· All games must be played by Sunday February 22, 2009.
· Playoffs begin (Thursday) February 26, 2009 and run through (Sunday) March 15, 2009 (This May Be Changed).
· Any issues, concerns, problems please contact your league director right away
· If school is closed for inclement weather, all games and practices for that day are cancelled.
· If one school closes because of weather and the other school is open, any game for that day is also cancelled.
· Send scores to league website at www.ocpsl.org
All coaches, think of the final score! There is no
reason to run a score up where it’s a embarrassment to both teams.
Think, there is a time not to press. Example when
a team has put in their bench player(s) there is no reason to press.
